Bill Kennedy

There are few people in shinty, in particular the older generation of the shinty community that wouldn't recognise the name, Bill Kennedy.   His name became and still is synonimous with Inverness Shinty Club.

There are so many who have stories of their encounters with Bill and it is rare to speak of the man and not find yourself with a broad smile on your face as you remember his larger than life personality.

I first met Bill when I started playing for the under 14 side back in 1987, by which time he was well past his own playing days, however, he was always the first town supporter to arrive at games, and always one of the last to leave.... oh and he was always willing to share his vast knowledge of how to play the game properly!!!  Bill served the Club both as a player and committee member.  He was part of the famous squad of 1952 who won the Camanachd Cup.

Quite simply he was one of a kind.

If anyone has any stories of Bill they would like to include for this page, please email them to me.. Tina@InvernessShintyClub.com

The following pictures of Bill were kindly sent by his family for which we extend our sincere thanks.

Bill

'Dear Bill Kennedy I well remember coming up against him in a
McGillvary league match when I was playing for Inveroich at Fort Augustus. At the
time I was 16 and a bit cheeky; I well remember stealing the ball of Bill's stick as
he was playing 'keepie up'. Bill took it like the gentleman he was and for the rest
of the game we had quite a tussle but  he played so fair and I had instant respect
for him. Two years later I played a season for Inverness and was delighted and
privileged to join forces with Bill.' - Tom Aitchison
